Featuring insightful and eye-opening interviews with artists, managers, songwriters, executive producers, and more, “Quit the Chaos. Keep the Gig,” is a new series that takes a look at how substance use affects everyone in the music & entertainment industry.

On Tuesday, August 14, hypnotherapist Holly Shaw of the Performers & Creators Lab joined Koorosh Rassekh for a Facebook Live Q&A.

In conversation with Koorosh, Holly discusses her work with artists and the issues they face, from performance anxiety and impostor syndrome to the pressures of success and how they relate to addiction.

According to Holly, one of the biggest problems she encounters with artists are that they struggle to balance self-sabotage and the necessary self-criticism to better their work:

“Somewhere you have to work through your own emotional journey. Because self-criticism is so huge for artists. And if you don’t have the tools, then you can always find a stick on the forest floor to beat yourself with.”
