Addiction treatment, evolved.
We respect where you are and where you want to go.
No one-size-fits-all solutions.
Recovery looks different for every person. Just as there’s no one-size-fits-all solution to depression or anxiety, there is no one-size-fits-all solution to addiction.
Based in Venice, California, Evo’s alternative, outpatient addiction treatment program is designed to offer the highest level of evidence-based, individualized care.
We work with you to set goals that make sense for your life and help you pursue positive change.
What makes Evo different.
No judgment or moralizing. We believe you are doing your best, even when it is most challenging. We don’t think you are sick or broken, and we know that “tough love” does not work. Instead, we provide respectful, compassionate care that supports you to set goals that make sense for your life and pursue positive change.
You don’t have to stop to start. You set goals that work for you, around substances, relationships, work or school, and beyond.
Lasting change. Evo’s individualized approach provides hands on support to wrestle through the complex issues that drive addiction. Rather than lofty promises of “quick fix” solutions, Evo’s goal is long-term success.
An alternative approach.
Contrary to popular belief, AA and Twelve-Step treatments are not actually evidence-based approaches to addiction treatment. A 2006 review of studies going back to the 1960s found that “no experimental studies unequivocally demonstrated the effectiveness of AA or [12-step] approaches for reducing alcohol dependence or problems.” And yet, at least 80% of all rehabs rely on these treatments as the foundation for their centers, with sobriety as their ultimate goal.
When abstinence is the only option, people fall through the cracks. It’s critical for multiple options to exist so that more people get the help they need.
Redefining addiction.
Drugs and alcohol are not the cause of addiction. They are the symptom.
There’s been a long-standing story that drugs in and of themselves are the primary cause of addiction. The idea is that certain drugs have chemical hooks that causes anyone who takes them could be vulnerable to addiction.
In response, people try to treat addiction by attempting to eliminate drugs. On a societal level, the War on Drugs attempted to stop the spread of addiction by criminalizing their use. On an individual level, the dominant story is that the only way to stop addiction is to opt for sobriety.
Yet research has shown that that this idea is just not true. Surprisingly, only 10-20% of those who try even the most stigmatized drugs like heroin, crack, and methamphetamine become addicted.
Instead, addiction most often occurs as response to pain that a person is experiencing. Addictive behaviors are a coping mechanism to deal with complex and dynamic personal and societal factors. At least two thirds of addicted people have suffered at least one extremely traumatic experience during childhood–and the higher the exposure to trauma, the greater the risk.
To overcome addiction, it is more important to address these underlying causes than to purely excise the problematic substances or behaviors.
Flexible and fully customizable.
When you arrive at Evo, the first thing that we do is work with you to determine which of our services would be best for your life and your goals.
We want to know what’s important to you so that we can tailor a program to you. If you don’t like groups, your program can focus on one-on-one sessions with a therapist. If you have a busy work or school schedule and cannot afford to take time off, we’ll make sure to schedule your sessions to accommodate that.
Over the course of your treatment, we regularly check up on your program so that we can make adjustments to fit your needs.
